Natural disasters can upend community pharmacies in an instant, creating emotional and operational strain for pharmacy teams and their patients. Drawing on firsthand experience responding to Hurricane Helene, this session offers a real-world look at how one independent pharmacy navigated crisis conditions while supporting staff well-being and continuing patient care. It also explores how mobilizing fellow pharmacists to contribute medications and supplies strengthened the community response, while coordination with physicians and other healthcare providers ensured continuity of care and protected patient outcomes during the crisis. The discussion highlights leadership decisions made under pressure and lessons learned that can help pharmacies better prepare for the human impact of future disruptive events.

This session is supported by an educational grant from the Cardinal Health Foundation.
